You might not be getting paid for it, but it’ll look great on your resume and you’ll be able to talk about the experience you’ve gotten volunteering there. Even just a few weeks or days of experience in catering will help you to get a job, and you’ll have a much better chance of being successful than those who haven’t got any experience at all.
Get qualifications
You’ll be lucky to get a job in the hospitality industry without some form of qualification, especially if you want to get a job as a chef or head waiter. You can do hospitality courses in Brisbane which will allow you to undergo hands-on training when it comes to setting and clearing tables. If you do a course which is mainly vocational, you can normally get a job quite soon afterwards since you will probably have done placements and had other experience which is very valuable to employers. There many courses how to start s new career, they will be helpful as well.
Work for agencies
Agencies are normally desperate for catering and hospitality staff, which is why it is usually easier to get ad hoc work from an agency rather than trying to get a full-time permanent job working for an employer. You will have an initial interview with the agency so they can make sure you have the necessary qualifications and experience for what you want to do, and they will also check your availability or other requirements which you may have. After you’ve signed up with them, they will be able to contact you whenever they have suitable work. At the begging this can be very unstable and you may not earn a lot of money doing it at first, but it will allow you to get real life experience that will be useful in the future to start hospitality career
Talk to people
Getting jobs in many industries is more about networking and less about your qualifications and experience. You can end up talking to the right person who tells you about a particular job vacancy. Tells you which is perfect for you. Some jobs aren’t in the market. Why? Maybe the employer hasn’t found time to sort out the advertisement. Or is only advertising within the business. The more people you talk to, the more you will find out about new opportunities. Find new places which could lead to a permanent position in hospitality. Don’t be afraid of talking to people and telling them that you’re looking for work.
